An intermediate walk offering a choice of the switchbacks on the road or shortcuts through the forest, frequently crossing the road. We did a few shortcuts on the way up and only the road on the way down. Allow 2.5 hours ascent, less to descend. Views along the way are often spectacular and can be missed if you're taking a forest shortcut. The hut is fairly small, busy and situated in a beautiful little oasis at the mountain top. Typical DAV hut food is served, and very welcome it is too! Many paths lead away from here and we walked a short way along friedrichshafenerweg towards the avalanche defences to get a perfect view down the valleys towards Galtur and Silvretta. It would certainly be an option to take the valley taxi up to this hut and start a hike to another hut like Heilbronner or even bag one of the local peaks along the ridge.
